When deciding whether or not to use a professional photographer, it’s important to consider a few things. We would always suggest using a professional when you can; but that isn’t always in everyone’s budget. So we thought we could help narrow down the choices and make it easier on you, the business owner, to make a conscious decision on whether or not hiring a professional is right for you and your project or business.
Some Things to Consider When Hiring a Photographer
-
Cost/Budget
Let us begin by saying that just because it’s within your budget, doesn’t necessarily mean you need to spend the money on a professional photographer. There are many websites that do not need professional photography and a great example of this type of website would be for informational or non-profit organizations where stock pictures would work just fine. With these type of websites the website is more about the message rather than showcasing items. -
Audience
A perfect instance of this would be a company that is trying to appeal to a younger audience. For the demographic of the Millennials and younger, they have the tendency to appreciate a more raw, untouched and natural feeling to branding and pictures. There are so many examples of this, but the first one that comes to mind would be Facebook. No matter if you have only been to this website once or if you are an avid user, one of the first tings you’ll notice is that the only fancy pictures you would see here are those of movie stars and models. Everyone from the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, to your friend down the street, are all wearing t-shirts and jeans, and most of their pictures were taken with some type of smartphone or similar device. The backgrounds are usually in businesses or outside and have little to no “professionalism” in them at all. Which, by the way, is completely fine if that is the average demographic of the clients and or customers you want to attract. For example, if you are opening up a skateboard shop near the beach in San Diego this would clearly be a great way to attract a younger audience. -
