Spring Valley, NV, sits in Clark County, home to Las Vegas. This unincorporated town was home to 178,395 people, according to the United States Census in 2010. Formed in the spring of 1981, Spring Valley is found a few miles to the west of the famous Las Vegas Strip.
This town actually started as land that the Stardust International Raceway took up. Pardee Homes bought the land and started a master-planned residential community. It started off as just a 1-square-mile town, but has grown to almost 34 times that size, occupying most of the southwestern quarter of the Las Vegas Valley.
If you look on a map of the area, you might not actually see Spring Valley listed, since the town is technically unincorporated. Look for Desert Breeze Park, as this large recreational area is in the center-north of the area. Four roads are considered the boundaries of the area, with Sahara Avenue lying on the northern edge, and Warm Springs Road being the southern edge. Hualapai Way is the western boundary, and Decatur Boulevard is the eastern edge.
Since the town is unincorporated, governance falls to the Clark County Commission, a seven-member group that come from all over the southern half of Nevada, and rarely from Spring Valley itself. However, Spring Valley does have a five-person town advisory board that consults with the Commission.
Spring Valley is largely residential, with many housing subdivisions and a few strip malls connecting to the Strip via the larger boulevards. A number of affluent and famous individuals call Spring Valley home, including Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi of professional tennis, and the former owner of the Sacramento Kings, George J. Maloof, Jr. One of the wealthiest men in the world, the Sultan of Brunei, maintains a residence, but does not live there full time.
