Howard Hughes originally purchased the area in 1952 and named it Husite but after his death in 1976, the heirs saw the potential in the area and began planning for a master-planned community. The area was renamed Summerlin after his grandmother. The Summa Corporation was organized at that time to oversee the land holdings and financial empire, including the desert area that eventually became Summerlin.
Today, the area offers much to residents and visitors alike. The high elevation makes it cooler than the surrounding area, although it is certainly known for its hot summer days. If you are looking for a place to move with plenty to do in an upscale environment, Summerlin has it all.
